Have a question?
Free Support is avaliable to help ALL CQC registered Care Providers complete the Data Secruity Protection Toolkit
The Data Security Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an online data protection assessment. It is a compulsory requirement to complete the DSPT assessment if you:
- Have an NHS Mail Account
- Have access to any NHS digital records
- Contract with the NHS
WHY IS THE DSPT IMPORTANT?
All CQC registered care providers will need to complete this data protection assessment (regardless of whether or not you have an existing NHS Mail Account).
Some of you will already be familiar with the DSPT, but all care providers need to take action (even if you have made a DSPT submission in the last 12 months). Here at the HCA, we are part of a national programme to assist care providers with this process.

Keep your Data Security and Protection Toolkit up to date
One of the lessons we have learned from the Covid pandemic, is that things can change very rapidly.
Ways of working and communicating with colleagues, families and people using care services have transformed, with increasing numbers of us using digital technology to keep in touch and share information.
And of course that brings many benefits. But are you confident that your care services’ policies, procedures and training have kept up with your changes in practice?
You can use the DSPT is an online self-assessment tool that allows health and social care organisations to provide assurance that they are undertaking good data security and that personal information is handled correctly.
Because things change so much in the data and tech world, care providers need to complete the DSPT at least once a year. If you don’t, your DSPT is not valid and cannot be used as evidence of the standard that you reach.
The toolkit year runs from 1st July to the 30th June every year
If you’ve never used the DSPT before, or you need to review and republish, start now. Our team on the Better Security, Better Care programme provides a range of support. So get some help and get your DSPT up to date.
