DSPT - Hampshire Care Association

Hampshire Care Association offers support to help you complete the Data Security Protection Toolkit (DSPT) by 30th June 2021.

The deadline to submit your DSPT assessment is fast approaching – here’s what you need to know

The Data Security Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an online data protection assessment. It is a compulsory requirement to complete the DSPT assessment if you:

  • Have an NHS Mail Account
  • Have access to any NHS digital records
  • Contract with the NHS

The deadline to complete your assessment is 30th June 2021.

All CQC registered care providers will need to complete this data protection assessment (regardless of whether or not you have an existing NHS Mail Account).

Some of you will already be familiar with the DSPT, but all care providers need to take action (even if you have made a DSPT submission in the last 12 months). Here at the Hampshire Care Association, we are part of a national programme to assist care providers with this process.

To find out what you need to do next, continue reading below.

Standards Met level:

The questions within the DSPT were updated on 1st December 2020, so even if you submitted your DSPT in November 2020 or before at Standards Met level, you will need to sign in again to make sure that your submission is up to date for the 2020/2021 DSPT year.

The deadline to resubmit your DSPT assessment is 30th June 2021.

If you have any questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to contact our Digital Champion, Angharad Eaton, on angharad.dc@hampshirecare.org.

Entry level:

The Entry level DSPT standard was withdrawn on 1st March 2021 and replaced by a new ‘Approaching Standards’ level. Approaching Standards requires more work than Entry level. We recommend that all care providers currently at Entry level, work towards completing the DSPT to Standards Met level, particularly if you have an NHS Mail account.

The deadline to resubmit your DSPT assessment is 30th June 2021.

If you have any questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to contact our Digital Champion, Angharad Eaton, on angharad.dc@hampshirecare.org.

The DSPT is an online toolkit that you are required to complete if you have access to any NHS data systems (including NHS Mail). As we increasingly work in a digital world, the NHS intends to further open its systems to Adult Social Care providers. By having access to the NHS’ digital systems, it will transform the way we deliver care, but in order to do this, providers must be able to demonstrate that they have adequate data protection policies in place. This is where the Toolkit comes in.
